Volunteer Fire Station Branch 1
Fire Station Branch 1 was constructed in 1940 in the architectural style associated with the Taisho era (1912–1926). The exterior is characteristically Western, but the second-floor interior is furnished in Japanese-style with a tatami-mat floor. The first floor was built to serve as the garage for a fire engine. Despite its age, the fire station is still in use today.
A memorial dedicated to Fujita Reizo stands to the right of the station. Fujita was a wealthy local entrepreneur who owned a coal trading company established during the Taisho era. He was also a philanthropist, regularly donating buildings needed by the town, such as schools and fire stations, including Branch 1.
