Former Measuring Station

A measuring station was constructed in Shiotatsu in 1949 to inspect and measure the weight of pottery stone transported there by boat from nearby Amakusa. Trucks hauling the raw material from the river basin drove onto the top of a scale built into the ground. Weight measurements were recorded and loads inspected before they were transported to nearby workshops. The measuring station is no longer used for its original purpose, but is now a key gathering place for visitors to the historical preservation district of Shiotatsu.
